It’s not too late to change your brain

Most people are familiar with the phrase, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” As we get older, we get set in our ways, and our brain becomes less able to change and adapt to new things, right?

Only partially right.

Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to change and adapt throughout our lives, and it’s a big area of research in the world of neuroscience. And the latest research on neuroplasticity is showing some pretty amazing things. Mostly that old dogs actually can learn new tricks, and it’s never too late to change your brain, and your life.

One of the most exciting findings is that neuroplasticity is not just limited to childhood and adolescence. It turns out that the brain can continue to change and adapt throughout our lives, meaning that it’s never too late to learn something new or improve your brain function.

But it’s not just about learning new skills – neuroplasticity can also have a big impact on our mental health. For example, studies have shown that practices such as mindfulness meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy can actually change the structure and function of the brain in ways that can reduce anxiety and depression.

Another area of research is focused on the use of brain training exercises to improve brain function. While the jury is still out on whether these types of exercises can actually make you smarter, there is some evidence to suggest that they can improve specific cognitive skills like memory and attention.

All this means that when you say things like, “well, that’s not for someone like me,” or, “I’m just not wired that way,” it doesn’t have to be true. You can be wired for success. You can be wired to eat healthy. You can be wired to achieve the New Year’s resolution you set out for yourself four days ago. You just need to train your brain.

This is why being surrounded by a community to support you is so important. Having accountability, and someone to give you exercises to change your thinking can make all the difference in your success. Why not hop into my brand new group on Facebook, The Unstuckables, and start to retrain your brain today?
